A rant.
Pasted from the comments of a
secondbananas post:I've realised that there are two things I despise reading in comics today.
One of them is... See, I don't mind darkening characters because of events that happen to them, which is why I didn't mind what happened to Piper in Flash. I don't even mind when goofy characters are darkened subtly in their attitude, as in Suicide Squad and again, Flash.
( Minor spoilers for current events in the Flash and even more minor ones for the rest of the DC universe. )The other thing I dislike is pointless deaths of smaller characters just for a shock ending, so that better not bloody happen in the Rogue's War. For god's sake, writers should be better than that. I don't care how silly and pointless you think a character is,
good stories can be written about them. I refuse to believe that there is such thing as an irredeemable character. I have yet to find one character that is unusable, and I have yet to find one character that doesn't have at least one person who thinks they are cool.
Which comes to the other stupid thing about pointlessly killing smaller characters. It doesn't matter how dead the company has said they are - if there is a famous writer out there who likes them and wants to write them, the people up top will see dollar signs and they will be resurrected. It will happen. There are no 'definitely dead' characters in comics today. If George Lucas came to Marvel and said "I want to bring Uncle Ben back", I honestly believe they would do it. They freaking
would.
*takes a deep breath* Okay, I'm done ranting. And I'm crossing my fingers.
